It might be fun to make your own microwave-bacon recipes, but the process is so complicated and expensive that even the most ambitious cook might not think of doing it. Most microwavable microwave ovens are designed to cook just a single item: cheese. Microwave bacon cooks in about the same amount of time as regular bacon does, which is about two minutes. The only problem with microwaved bacon is that once cooked, it has no flavor.
Microwave bacon cookers can cook much more than just a handful of slices of sausage, though. Most microwavable microwave ovens can cook a full pound of bacon in an hour-long process, which is about three quarters of a pound. The best ovens can cook nearly three pounds of bacon at once, which sounds like much, but then again, when you really think about it, most people probably don't eat six-plus pounds in one sitting. Plus, there's the added difficulty of finding enough bacon on the grocery store shelves. For those who are lucky enough to live in areas that tend to have high-quality bacon, microwaving bacon is probably the least expensive way to get it. For most of us, though, it's the easiest way.
So, is a microwave bacon cooker right for you? The short answer is probably not. There are other easier and less expensive methods of cooking bacon, or there are more ways to enjoy the tasty side of this traditional food.
